Yes, I know. I know. I got the e-mail, too. Only I wasn't the least surprised or disappointed.
Why?
How can I be so calm?
Isn't my faith challenged?
No. My faith is actually strengthened.
And I can be calm because I know a few things, things that a lot of people seem to have missed, in spite of the fact that I've been trying to tell everyone for decades.
What things?
Things like that the leaders of the church are given different commandments than we are. Remember what Christ told his newly-minted apostles: "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles." (Matt 10:16-17)
But what does that mean?
Well, if you can bear having me teach you, I'll start by paraphrasing that. And, by the way, you should, of course, as I keep saying, read that whole chapter, and the one before and after. See what's going on there? Christ is changing the rules for them because he's changed their roles. Their NEW role is to run the church. AND, in that role, they have to now play it safe. Just as Christ himself did when he switched from telling people the blunt truths to teaching them in parables, even telling his disciples why he was doing it (too many attempts on his life 'before his hour was come').
So, what he tells them now is (paraphrasing), 'I'm sending you into harm's way, so you've got to keep your wits about you. I need you to run the church, so stay in the game as long as you can. Don't make any sudden moves, or make any loud noises. Do nothing to give them an excuse to kill you. They'll kill you anyway, but you'll have robbed them of all justification for it. All of heaven and earth will see just how guilty they are. But only if you play by these new rules.'
Get it?
But it gets even worse than that.
Remember the scripture in Isaiah where God accuses the people of bossing the prophets around, telling them what they don't want to hear? Looking for those teachers who'll teach them the 'smooth' things?
Remember the scripture where God says that the spirit of God shall not always strive with mankind? That's basically saying that we CAN reach a point where he just stops trying.
In fact, remember that scripture where the prophet says that God just abandons the deviants to their perversions?
But it gets even worse than that.
Maybe you forgot that the Book of Mormon was written to our day.
All of it.
Remember the part where Alma warns that those who don't/won't heed/gain the word, eventually lose it until they've lost it all?
Remember the part where both Mormon and Moroni were forbidden from teaching the people because of their wickedness, so they only MINISTERED instead?
But, wait ... you say?
We're not that kind of wicked!
No? When was the last time you saw food prepared in the kitchen in the church?
When was the last time you were able to fulfill a work assignment in a cannery?
Do you remember the church once having an adoption agency? And why we lost it?
How many babies have been murdered in their mothers' wombs in this country alone since abortion was legalized?
And now we're encouraging children to attend pervert reading sessions?
And now we're funding science and medicine to disguise men as women and women as men?
And forces are passing laws forbidding treating, or even addressing them as anything other than whatever they say?
In what wey are we not that wicked?
I say we passed that mark decades ago.
And we've seen the evidence of it in the steadily declining standards of education in the church as well as the schools, including the church schools.
We've seen it in the changes to the lessons, the dumbing down of the doctrine, the lowering of the bar of bishops interviews, the elimination of a good many things, some of which you aren't even aware of, and I'm not authorized to tell you about.
We're there, sad to say.
And then, of course, there's this: You are not 'their' only audience. 'They' are addressing from children to nonogenarians. They are addressing Americans AND Chinese. They have to couch their speech to suit the educated and the ignorant. And, as I said, above all, they have to avoid drawing fire. They can not be guilty of putting the church in the cross-hairs.
BUT...
Agency remains.
I've heard no talk of making vaccines a requirement for temple attendance.
I've heard no mention of alternatives being forbidden.
No one has said anything about the natural immunity granted by prior infection.
And, above all, as Brigham Young himself pointed out, blindly doing anything/everything our leaders say is unwise. Follow the spirit.
And I do.
And I, especially given my many years under military authority, and all the vaccinations I received because of that, nearly dying once because of them, will NOT be getting any more vaccines, and certainly not any COVID and/or MRNA pseudo-vaccine.
And that brings us to my penultimate point: Only the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is actually anything like a vaccine. The others are not. So, if anyone wants you to get a vaccine, request they prove to you that it is.
And don't forget that on-line form that you are encouraged to require your employer to sign which places all liability on them should you suffer any adverse effects.
And, finally, there's this: How old are they? Can't really hurt much for them to get such shots, I suppose, so let them. And assume that they're talking to others like themselves.
But, ... and, yes, this is my own opinion here ... God help you if you press anyone under 60 to get any of those shots.
You do NOT lead the church.
You, like me, are NOT Commissioner Gordon, bound by the rules and conventions of his office.
You, like me, must be Batman. Or, rather, Abinadi.
