We've been here before
When I was an Air Force brat, I used to bristle at every article I would read questioning our defense spending. Then I was introduced to President Eisenhower's 'military industrial complex' speech. Then my dad, still in the --- you know what --- let slip that not only had the whole Maddox incident been staged, like Pearl Harbor, but that the ship wasn't even present at that time.
Finally, as I started studying the Constitution and its provenance on my own, I had to come to grips with the founders' horror at the very idea of the kind of standing military (AND POLICE) (which is, as everyone in the military learns, merely the civilian component of the very same 'armed forces' they are active in) into which I was born, and in which I grew up and served myself, what that revulsion was born of, and, more importantly, what their alternate vision of our civilization was.
Hint: It's all about the second amendment and the minutemen.
As I've so often said, Americans today can hardly conceive of the America its founders envisioned.
Yamamoto may not have said it, but he certainly could have, and it certainly is true that, "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass."
Or, at least, there SHOULD be!

The left are probably most famous lately for (supposedly) debunking every talking-point and talking-head perceived as belonging to the right, even if many of those turn out to be strawmen. So, it's only fair that we hold them to their own standards, right? Well, actually, practically everything out of their mouths, including their entire world-view (like the 1619 project) comes from some alternat universe, so this is less a fact-check than it is an exposé.
Where've we seen this before?
Why is this such a consistent theme on the left? Yeah, yeah, I know. The right is supposedly just as guilty. Except that it isn't. Just because someone, like, say Mitt Romney, John McCain, or George Bush, poses as a conservative doesn't make them one. Real conservatives simply do not engage in that kind of thing, but the left repeatedly lie, propagandize, twist, distort, cherry-pick, obfuscate, and engage in every manner of deception. Indeed, they remind me of the very people D&C 10:25 was written to.
And, by the way, contrast that with the Book of Mormon's, Alma 43:30, recalling that stratagem is deceit. In fact, all warfare is based on deception. So, for Captain Moroni to conclude that he was safe in deceiving his enemy is tantamount to concluding that it is only righteous to defend one's self and one's loved ones against attack. And that right there is the dividing line. Who attacked the left? No one. All their offenses are imagined, invented, and contrived, as we see in 3 Nephi 3:11.
