Holland Urges BYU to Embrace Its Uniqueness, Stay True to the Savior I listened to the whole thing, and then read the comments. Then I looked up some of the video responses. Elder Holland is completely innocent of any wrong-doing, but his critics are all completely evil and insane. In the first place, this speech was to BYU faculty and staff. In the second place, it was entirely within the bounds of our beliefs. But, that, of course, is our opponents' real problem. Third (yes, there's a third) I ASKED HIM TO DO THIS! Clearly I'm not the only one who wrote to the Church Education Service, but the portion he read sure sounded, word-for-word, like my letter. If BYU can't be what it's supposed to be, then why should I pay to send my kids there? The leftist, BLM, Antifa, LGBTQRSXYZ+-etc. professors MUST go. No more tolerance! And it's NOT enough for them to accept, and adhere to a policy which says that they must keep it out of the lessons, because they never do. They always find ways to advertise their views, to promote those who share them, to oppress those who don't. So, they must be eliminated the minute they reveal themselves. No compromises. But this is all we got, this talk by Elder Holland. But I'll take it. Me and my big mouth! The spirit actually has a very tightly defined mission. Did you know that? Joseph Smith taught us that it's effect is to bring intelligence. Now, that word itself has multiple meanings, and Joseph appears to have known that, and he clearly meant ALL the meanings: The information itself, the capacity to retain that information, and the ability to process that information. (AES) But, tangential to that, the spirit can also constrain you. That means that the spirit can pretty much take over and compell you to ... do what? SPEAK! Or write. We see this, for example in the book of Tobit where an angel (Raphael) literally kicks Tobias to get him to speak up. We also see this in many, if not all of the prophets who have to speak truth to power, even though they know it will cost them their lives. By the way, notice what it was Christ repeatedly told the evil spirits? SHUT UP! And this relates to what he said about the spirit not being able to testify while he was present. So, that said, what follows is a comment I made on a youtube video that I felt compelled to write, and to share with you, too. And the reason is that I very, perhaps too concisely delineate the differences between 'communalism' and the United Order. And the reason for explaining this is the number of members (and other 'christians') who go about conflating Christ's teachings with Karl Marx's. Christ NEVER taught anything like 'social justice'! In fact, he fully endorsed and supported what we today call racism, elitism, and classism, telling us in Abraham that 'If two things exist, and there be one above the other [and where is this not the case?], there shall be greater things above them'. There is a hierarchy in heaven, and Christ never says it shouldn't be that way. Morever, in life, he was no carpenter; his father was. He was an educated rabbi, and almost certainly, like Saul, a Pharisee, maybe even a member of the Sandhedrin. He was at the pinnacle of Jewish society, which is what makes his example so noteworthy. It wouldn't really impress anyone for some beggar to preach about helping others, now, would it? But how can one practice charity towards those one esteems as one's equals or superiors? You can't. Christ taught that you reach down, to those BELOW you, to help them up. YOU! Not the government. And how can you strive to be better than you are unless there is a 'better' to strive for? And those who equate the United Order with some form of collectivism are liars. ALL forms of collectivism, in one way or another, seize all land, 'for the common use' (fascism uses 'zoning' and other tricks to take what's yours without really taking it), promising an equal income (of money) to all. Christ, on the other hand, denounced (fiat) money (he was wealthy, and had gold, but not money), and never touched the stuff at all himself. Remember when Peter had to get a *COIN* from a fish to pay the taxes that Christ, as descendant of David, shouldn't have had to pay anyway? Remember when he had to ask for someone to show him a coin? But, as we see in the D&C, everyone gets an inheritance of the Lord (which is land) which can never be taken from them for any reason, even apostasy. This was also the way practiced by the ancient Israelites. The United Order is NOTHING like any of the forms of collectivism extant. And, if you want to point out that the Nephites had all things in common, just ask yourself how much you have in common with with your spouse, or the other members of your ward. Actually, given the deep divisions in the church today, you might not have all that much in common with them after all. Right? And what does that mean? We all drive on the same roads to get to church, and yet we're not at all on the same page about what message we should be hearing/teaching there. By the way, what's the one thing we know of for sure that Christ did not own? Where did he have to be *LAIN*? A BORROWED TOMB! So, when he said that he 'hath not where to *LAY* his head, he didn't mean a pillow, he meant a grave. And why wouldn't he own a grave, when, like Joseph of Arimathea, all wealthy men did? Because he knew he wasn't going to need one! But everything else, all the other trappings of wealth (except money), he had. Read it for yourself at his crucifixion. His clothing was so fine, the soldiers didn't want to damage it. So, how does one live in a society based on money without money? Refuse to accept money. Let Caesar keep his nasty, mostly lead, money. Instead, we'll just 'serve one another'! And we'll let the bishop keep score. By the way, Christ also never said 'blessed are the poor'. He said "blessed are the poor in spirit"! And that doesn't mean what most people think it means. If you would understand the Sermon on the Mount, just compare it to Paul's Faith, Hope, and Charity (which he goes on to define by explaining what it's NOT, and, yet, everyone today still thinks that charity really is all the things Paul said it isn't, just with feeling, or with a cherry on top) with the Book of Mormon's book of Enos.
